Legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen was hospitalised on Monday night after a dramatic fall during his performance in the West End production of “Player Kings” at the Noel Coward Theatre in London.

Witnesses at the scene described a distressing atmosphere as Sir Ian was heard screaming in pain, prompting staff members to rush to his aid. The gravity of the situation was palpable outside the theatre as well, where videos circulated on social media showing long queues of theatre-goers following the cancellation of the show.

One audience member expressed their concern on social media, stating, “Audience shocked by Sir Ian McKellen’s fall off stage tonight at Noel Coward Theatre. Staff working hard to help him. Thoughts with him, cast and crew.”

“Player Kings,” which is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Parts One and Two, began its 12-week run in April and has been met with critical acclaim.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Sir Ian’s representatives or from the ambulance service. The theatre community and fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting updates on Sir Ian’s condition and are sending their best wishes for his swift recovery.
