Twin Sisters from South London Found Guilty of Making False Rape Allegations

17-year-old twins referred to a youth offender panel

Two twin sisters from south London have pleaded guilty to making false allegations of rape. Due to their age, their identities cannot be disclosed.

Appearing before a magistrates’ court in south London, the twin sisters entered guilty pleas to the charge of committing an act with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

The court, in its sentencing decision, referred the twins to a youth offender panel for a period of 12 months. Youth offender panels consist of local individuals who work with young people to help them take responsibility for their actions and encourage behavioural change.

Making false rape allegations can have serious consequences, not only for the individuals falsely accused but also for the credibility of genuine victims of sexual assault. It undermines the trust placed in the justice system and can cause significant emotional distress to those wrongfully accused.

The sentencing decision reflects the court’s recognition of the need to address the behaviour of the twin sisters and provide them with an opportunity for rehabilitation and personal growth.
