UPDATED: Car Collides with HGV Resulting in Fire, Three Lanes Closed on M20 Westbound

A serious accident involving a car and a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) has led to a significant traffic disruption on the M20 Westbound between Junction 4, A228 Castle Way (Leybourne / Snodland) and Junction 3, M26.

As a result of the collision, authorities have temporarily halted all traffic and closed three out of the four available lanes. The incident has caused extensive delays and is expected to impact travel in the area for an extended period.

Emergency services, including Kent Fire and Rescue, Kent Police, and ambulance teams, swiftly responded to the scene. Four fire engines and two critical care paramedics are currently on-site to address the situation.

The collision resulted in a fire that engulfed the HGV, making it necessary to close off the affected lanes to ensure the safety of all road users and to facilitate the emergency response.

At this time, the severity of injuries and the number of individuals involved remain unclear. Further updates regarding the condition of those involved will be provided as more information becomes available.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible and seek alternative routes to minimize disruption. Kent Police have not yet indicated when the affected lanes will be reopened. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on the situation and adhere to official instructions provided by the authorities.

The incident is currently under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause of the collision and the subsequent fire.
