Violent Man Sentenced to Over a Decade in Prison for Rape and Threats

A Midlands sex attacker, Jerome Macalla, has been sentenced to more than ten years in prison

Macalla, 33, broke into a woman’s home, subjected her to a terrifying sexual assault, and threatened her with decapitation if she reported the incident to the police.

The victim, who was left traumatised and fearing for her life after the brutal attack. Macalla, from Arden Road in Birmingham, not only violated her but also made chilling threats, promising to shoot her in the face and make her life unbearable if she disclosed his crimes. He even went so far as to warn that he would remove her head if law enforcement attempted to apprehend him.

Fearing for her safety, the victim sought refuge at a friend’s house and bravely reported the incident to the police. PC Katie Walker, the officer in charge of the case, praised the victim’s courage in coming forward despite the menacing threats she had endured.

Macalla was arrested on June 17, 2023, while trying to break into the victim’s home with a shovel. He was subsequently charged with rape, harassment, criminal damage, sending threatening messages, possession of cannabis, and driving while disqualified. Although he admitted to some of the charges, Macalla denied raping and harassing his victim.

However, a jury at Sheffield Crown Court found Macalla guilty of the rape and harassment charges. Today, he was sentenced to a total of 12 years behind bars.

PC Walker underlined the danger posed by Macalla and commended the victim for her bravery. She stated, “Macalla is a dangerous predator who inflicted untold misery on his victim. Without her testimony and courage, he could still be roaming the streets. I hope this sentence sends a clear message of zero tolerance to individuals like Macalla.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Macalla has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and is subject to an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
