Two weapons were seized, and one man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving during a crime crackdown in Edenbridge.
On Friday, August 23, 2024, officers from Kent Police partnered with Sussex Police in a joint operation to address a recent rise in drug-related and vehicle crimes in West Kent town. Fourteen additional officers were deployed for the operation.
During patrols, officers noticed a man acting suspiciously on CCTV. He was detained on suspicion of being involved in drug supply and driving under the influence of drugs. A search led to the discovery of a mobile phone, a baseball bat, and an imitation firearm. The local man, in his 20s, was also arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.
The operation also led to the seizure of a moped suspected of being used for drug supply in Edenbridge and Sevenoaks and the recovery of a stolen Honda. Officers also issued three traffic offence reports, provided a speed advisory, and resolved an incident of anti-social behaviour involving young people on the High Street.
Inspector Mark Stubberfield said:
“In response to residents’ concerns about violent crimes in Edenbridge, we are coordinating a regular enhanced police presence in the town and carrying out more operations specifically designed to tackle burglaries, vehicle thefts, and drug-related offences. Since implementing a more robust response, I am pleased to say we have seen a reduction in these types of crimes. Officers will continue to patrol the town to deter offenders and act swiftly to tackle known suspects or suspicious behaviour.”
