Woman with Samurai Sword Arrested After Armed Police Called to Isle of Wight Property

In a dramatic incident last night, armed police officers were deployed to Oakfield following reports of a person waving a samurai sword in the air. The incident, first reported by Island Echo, led to a significant police response in the area.

The situation unfolded shortly after 8 PM when police received a call about a person carrying a samurai sword on School Street in Ryde. Multiple police vehicles quickly arrived at the residential address in Oakfield. Additional armed officers, brought in from the mainland, were picked up from Ryde Pier and rushed to the scene.

The individual, later identified as a 53-year-old woman from Ryde, initially refused to allow officers into her home. After a tense standoff, she was detained at approximately 10:30 PM.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that no one was threatened or injured during the incident. The woman has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and remains in custody.

The swift and coordinated response by the police ensured that the situation was handled without any harm to the public. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the prompt action of law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
