Sussex Police Warn Against Participating in Criminal Disorder

Sussex Police have addressed the growing public concern following the recent criminal disorder witnessed across the country. The force has assured the public that protecting the community is its top priority and that they are fully prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any incidents that may arise.

To reassure the public, Sussex Police have implemented an ongoing, visible presence within local communities. This proactive measure is part of their robust, well-rehearsed plans to address any local incidents. Despite unverified reports circulating online about potential activities across Sussex, the police are diligently reviewing information and collaborating with partners to identify and address any emerging concerns. The community will be kept informed with verified facts through local news and Sussex Police’s social media channels.

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Court emphasized the importance of challenging and verifying information found online. He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities or concerns appropriately.

“We recognise that recent events across the country have left our communities feeling unsafe, particularly people of colour and our Muslim communities,” said Assistant Chief Constable Court. “Please be reassured that racist, criminal behaviour will not be tolerated. We are working hard to keep you safe and ensure anyone involved in criminal disorder is held to account.”

In a stern warning to those contemplating involvement in disorder, he added, “Be in no doubt that we will make you regret your actions. We will use all powers at our disposal to make sure you are held to account for your actions.”

Sussex Police’s neighbourhood officers are actively engaging with local communities, and residents are encouraged to speak directly to them if they have any concerns. The public is also asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately online, via 101, or by calling 999 in an emergency, quoting Operation Skylark.
