A major section of the M25 has been closed following a serious collision involving a tanker and a car th collision took place on Sunday evening. Hundred of drivers remain trapped after a lanes 1,2,3 closure was put into place.
Fire crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue, Paramedic and officer from Surrey Road have all been called to the incident between junctions five and junction six on the clockwise side of the motorway. It is understood that a spillage has taken place but unclear if this is from the tanker or what the tanker is carrying
The closure is likely to be in place for a number of hours while police carry out investigation work into the cause of the fatal collision.
A spokeswoman for Surrey Fire and rescue confirmed that they had sent a number of crews but she was unable to confirm any further details
A spokesman for Highways England said;” A full closure of Junction 5 on the M25 clockwise has been put in place.
This will also include a closure from the A21 Sevenoaks and a closure from the M26 Junction 2a on to the M25 and this is due to the seriousness of the incident serious.
UPDATE:01.16am Highways England are slowly making progress in turning traffic. Other drivers have taken it upon themselves without direction to turn around and use the hard shoulder to try and escape some drivers have been trapped for nearly two and half hours.
UPDATE 03.43am A number of Lorries and cars remained trapped in the closed section of the M25 whilst Police Crash scene investigators carry out detailed investigation work. Highways England traffic officers have been carrying out welfare checks on those affected who remain in their vehicles.
