BMW International Open Kicks Off with Thrilling Longdrive Competition

The 35th BMW International Open teed off with a bang as the first round concluded at the prestigious golf course. But it wasn’t just the traditional putts and drives that stole the show. Right after the last putt, the 18th green in front of the grandstand transformed into a Longdrive arena, setting the stage for an adrenaline-charged showdown.

For the first time in the event’s history, six top-class Longdrive athletes—both men and women—competed against each other in a spectacular show match. The event, titled “Launch Control – A Longdrive Competition presented by BMW & Martin Borgmeier,” added a thrilling twist to the DP World Tour.

Men’s Showdown: Martin Borgmeier Triumphs

German Longdrive World Champion Martin Borgmeier emerged as the victor among the men. Facing off against Ryan “The Canadian Lumberjack” Gregnol (CAN) and Sam Judah (USA), Borgmeier showcased his power and precision. In a gripping final, he unleashed a colossal drive of 424 meters, securing his place at the top. Notably, Gregnol had set the day’s record in the preliminary round with an astonishing 427-meter hit.

Women’s Battle: Cassandra Meyer Takes the Crown

Among the women, it was Cassandra Meyer (USA) who reigned supreme. With a powerful drive spanning 322 meters, she defeated her compatriot Gabi Powel and the local favourite, European Amateur Long Drive Champion Sonya Knebel. The Longdrive competition provided a fresh and exhilarating golf experience for fans, who celebrated the athletes’ remarkable skills.

As the sun set on the first round, the Longdrive spectacle left an indelible mark on the BMW International Open. Golf enthusiasts eagerly await the next round, wondering what surprises await on the fairways and greens. Stay tuned for more thrilling action from this prestigious tournament
