Kent Police Apprehend Suspected Burglar in Rochester Area

In a swift response to reports of suspicious activity, constables patrolling the Rochester area successfully detained a man suspected of burgling a residential property. The incident unfolded just before midnight on Monday, February 5, 2024, when officers from Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit received a distress call regarding two individuals spotted leaving a private storage area near houses on Corporation Street.

With the aid of CCTV operators, the patrol swiftly mobilized to Esplanade, where they encountered two men fleeing the scene on bicycles. Determined to apprehend the suspects, the officers pursued them through a nearby park area. Despite the fleeing suspects‘ efforts, one of them was successfully tracked down and subsequently arrested by the vigilant officers.

In the course of the arrest, law enforcement also seized several items of interest, including a suspected stolen motorcycle helmet and a mountain bike believed to be connected to the burglary.

The individual detained has been identified as an 18-year-old man hailing from Erith, Greater London. Following his arrest, he was subsequently released on bail, albeit with stringent conditions prohibiting him from entering Kent, pending further inquiries into the incident.

Investigators are urging members of the public who may have pertinent information regarding the recovered bike or believe it may belong to them to come forward. Those with relevant details are encouraged to contact Kent Police at 01634 792209, quoting crime reference number 46/20182/24.

The prompt and decisive actions of the constables from Kent Police exemplify their commitment to maintaining the safety and security of the community, ensuring that those who engage in criminal activities are swiftly brought to justice.
