In a devastating incident, Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima and nine other individuals lost their lives when their plane crashed. The aircraft, which was carrying six passengers and three military crew members, mysteriously disappeared from radar shortly after departing from the capital city, Lilongwe, on Monday morning.
Search and rescue teams, comprising hundreds of soldiers, police officers, and forest rangers, scoured the rugged terrain during the frantic search for the missing plane. The 45-minute flight was en route to Mzuzu, a city in northern Malawi.
The grim discovery came when the wreckage was located in the mountainous Chikangawa Forest. President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the tragic news, stating, “I’m deeply saddened to inform you all that it has turned out to be a terrible tragedy. The search and rescue team found the aircraft near a hill, completely destroyed, with no survivors.”
The loss of Vice-President Chilima and the other victims has sent shockwaves through the nation, leaving citizens mourning and grappling with the sudden and profound impact of this aviation disaster.
