Wissem Bonafia, a former special constable with Northamptonshire Police, has been convicted of multiple horrific sexual offences involving children and young victims.

Police Crack Down After Shocking Discovery

In 2020, authorities received intel about illegal images allegedly held by 48-year-old Bonafia. In August that year, police raided his home in Barton Seagrave and seized numerous electronic devices. They uncovered a disturbing stash of indecent images and videos of girls ranging from prepubescent age up to 17, many taken by Bonafia himself. The crimes spanned from 2014 to 2019.

Lengthy Trial Reveals Dark Details

Bonafia faced an extensive list of charges, including:

  • Six counts of raping a woman aged 16 or over
  • One count of assault by penetration
  • Multiple counts of assault causing actual bodily harm
  • Several counts of taking and making indecent images of children
  • Inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity
  • Engaging in sexual communication with a child
  • Attempting to pervert the course of justice

At his 2026 trial, Bonafia pleaded guilty to some charges but denied others. After two weeks of intense courtroom hearings, he was found guilty of 12 further offences but cleared of some rape charges and other counts.

Former Officer Resigned Before Gross Misconduct Verdict

Bonafia quit his special constable role in November 2021. A police gross misconduct hearing in February 2023 ruled that, had he still been serving, he would have been sacked immediately for his actions.

This case exposes a dark betrayal of public trust by a once-trusted officer. The full extent of Bonafia’s crimes has only now come to light after years of investigation.
