Determined police work led to the arrests of two teenagers and the recovery of a knife after officers swiftly responded to reports of an attempted robbery – UKNIP

 

Officers were made aware of two youths riding around on bikes who were allegedly trying to steal mobile phones from people in Midland Way, Radford, at around 10.15pm yesterday (Friday 11 March 2022).

They quickly arrived at the scene and spotted two suspects who rode off as they tried to get away. One of them came off his bike and ran off but one of the officers grabbed hold of his jacket.

The officer was kicked to her leg, causing pain, and fell to the ground as he continued to struggle to get away but she wouldn’t let go. He was detained after a colleague to her aid. The officer also received minor injuries to her knees while dealing with the suspect.

Soon after, the other suspect was also arrested after an officer chased after him on foot. A knife was found after he was searched.

A 15-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of a knife in a public place and another 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, assault with intent to resist arrest and going equipped for burglary.

Detective Inspector Richard Guy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The excellent work of the officers, in this case, shows our constant drive and determination to keep people safe and quickly apprehend suspects believed to be responsible for this type of criminality.

“Robbery is a very serious offence and, as our quick response and positive action in this instance demonstrates, the force will always do its utmost to investigate reports, catch offenders, protect the public and ensure that people who target victims in this way are brought to justice.”
