Motorists in Kent are being warned to take extra care on the roads as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight on Thursday, January 2.
Kent County Council has announced that its gritting teams will be treating all main roads across the region this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning to prevent the formation of ice and frost.
The council’s gritting alert emphasizes the dangers of icy conditions, particularly on untreated roads, and urges drivers to exercise caution.
Warning to Drivers:
- Watch for icy patches and slippery surfaces, especially on roads not treated with grit.
- Drive deliberately and reduce speed to avoid sudden traffic changes.
- Avoid harsh braking, steering, or acceleration, which can increase the risk of skidding.
The council encourages motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
Kent County Council said:
“Our gritting teams are out in force to ensure main roads remain as safe as possible during these freezing conditions. Please drive carefully and take precautions to avoid accidents.”
