Child Murderer Ian Huntley Dies After Brutal Prison Attack

Ian Huntley, the notorious killer behind the horrific Soham murders, has died at 52 after a savage assault by a fellow inmate at HMP Frankland, County Durham.

Prison Brawl Leaves Huntley on Life Support

Huntley never woke up after the attack on 26 February. The convicted child murderer suffered severe head trauma after being hit with a makeshift weapon in a prison workshop. He was put on life support but succumbed to his injuries days later.

Triple killer Anthony Russell, 43, is suspected of carrying out the vicious assault, according to the BBC.

Convicted for the Shocking Murder of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman

Huntley was serving a life sentence with a 40-year minimum for killing 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002. The pair vanished from Soham, Cambridgeshire, after a family barbecue. Huntley, then 28 and a former school caretaker, lured the girls to his home where he murdered them.

The image of Holly and Jessica in matching red Manchester United kits became etched in the public’s mind. Their disappearance sparked a massive police hunt and desperate public appeals. Their bodies were found two weeks later near RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk. Huntley was arrested the same day.

Life Behind Bars Filled with Violence and Attacks

Huntley’s crimes made him a constant target inside prison walls. He suffered multiple attacks, including a brutal throat slashing in 2010 that required 21 stitches. His violent death marks yet another grim chapter in a life of infamy.

Investigations Underway

Officials have launched a Prison Service investigation into the fatal assault. Police inquiries are also ongoing as questions mount over how Huntley’s attackers gained access to weapons inside the prison.
