Northampton Hospital on Lock Down after Suspect Liquid is Found in Man’s Vehicle

The Northampton General Hospital Accident and Emergency department is under lockdown this morning (Friday 3rd November) following the discovery of an unknown liquid in a man’s vehicle. Staff and patients have been moved from the hospital Accident and Emergency department and an area has been cordoned off following the discovery of a suspect item in a vehicle. Northamptonshire Police and fire crews are currently at the scene and people attended the department are being turned away. A nearby nursery has also been advised to keep people inside whilst Police manage the incident with the fire service. A spokeswoman for Northampton General Hospital said: “Our main entrance and emergency department entrance are closed while the fire and rescue service deal with the vehicle. “Patients and visitors to the hospital are asked to use other entrances. For emergency admissions by ambulance, we’re working with EMAS and being supported by neighbouring hospitals. Some but not all ambulance patients will be taken to hospitals nearby. A Spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said Emergency services are dealing with an incident following an assault on a man in the Ecton Brook area of Northampton earlier today, where he was sprayed with unknown substance while in his car. The man experienced irritation to his nose and attended Northampton General Hospital for treatment. As a precaution, police and fire placed a cordon around the vehicle in the hospital car park while an investigation takes place. The hospital main entrance and emergency department entrance remain closed and patients and visitors to the hospital are asked to use other entrances.
