A man who deliberately started a fire at a property in Whirlow within months after being released from prison has been jailed

The court heard in June 2019, Liverpool man John Haase was released on license from prison after serving half of a 22-year sentence for perverting the course of justice.

On 9 March 2020, Haase attended a property in the Whirlow area of Sheffield and demanded £280,000 from the residents. When he didn’t get the answer he wanted and the owners wouldn’t hand over the cash, he returned to the property on 14 March and set fire to a Range Rover which was parked on the drive.
