Residents in Lenham, near Maidstone, are being urged to keep windows and doors closed as four fire engines respond to a significant house fire on Douglas Road.

Emergency services were called at 7:53pm this evening, with crews currently working at the scene to extinguish the flames.

According to Kent Fire and Rescue Service, there are no reported injuries, but the incident has caused heavy smoke to spread across the local area.

“Crews are advising people living or travelling in Lenham, Maidstone, to keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke coming from a house fire on Douglas Road,” a fire service spokesperson confirmed.

 

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for some time.
