Darren Farmer, the Director of Ambulance Operations at the London Ambulance Service (LAS), has been awarded the prestigious King’s Ambulance Service Medal in the New Year Honours List. The accolade recognises his exceptional service and contributions to patient care and staff welfare over a distinguished 30-year career.
In July 2023, Farmer led LAS as Gold Commander during the Wimbledon primary school tragedy, a major incident that left several children injured. His leadership ensured not only a swift and effective response but also timely emotional support for the teams on the ground.

A Humble Recipient

Speaking about the honour, Farmer expressed gratitude for the recognition:
“I am hugely honoured and humbled to receive this medal on behalf of London Ambulance Service and the paramedic profession. I am proud to have worked at LAS for the past 30 years alongside excellent colleagues who day in and day out are dedicated to helping the people of London.”

The King’s Ambulance Service Medal is a fitting tribute to Farmer’s three decades of dedication to the London Ambulance Service, setting a benchmark for excellence in leadership and care in the emergency medical services.
