Emergency services have been called to a serious fire at a well-developed property on Whitechapel Road in East London this morning.

Fire crews from the London Fire Brigade, including a 32-metre aerial ladder platform, are currently at the scene.

 


 

The blaze, which broke out near the Royal London Hospital, has prompted a large emergency response. Investigators are also in attendance to determine the cause of the fire.

The London Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is supporting the operation, and it is understood that one person has been accounted for, though the extent of any injuries remains unclear at this time.

Whitechapel Road has been closed in both directions as crews continue to tackle the blaze. Local bus services are being diverted, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

A  source for the London Fire Brigade said: “We were called to a property fire on Whitechapel Road shortly before 8.30am. Multiple crews and specialist equipment have been deployed to bring the fire under control.”

We are currently awaiting updates from the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service. Police have also been contacted for comment.
