A 71-year-old former Islamic teacher from Ipswich has been locked up for a string of horrific sexual assaults on young girls spanning over a decade.

Hafez Ashraf Uddin Sentenced to 12 Years

Hafez Ashraf Uddin, who once taught religion, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 21 November and was sentenced to 12 years behind bars. The court also slapped him with a lifetime Sex Offenders’ Register order and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Uddin, originally from Wivenhoe Road, Barking, London, was convicted of 13 counts of indecent assault following a lengthy four-week trial.

At Least 29 Separate Assaults on Six Girls

The vile attacks happened between 1985 and 1999, targeting six girls aged between seven and 14. Uddin faced 22 charges in total involving seven victims but was acquitted of nine counts. The offences included putting his hand inside one victim’s trousers and repeatedly touching or squeezing girls’ breasts.

Four of the charges were multiple offending counts, meaning each charge covered at least five assaults, pushing the total number of attacks to at least 29.

“The victims were all young children who trusted him,” the court heard.

The community breathes a sigh of relief after years of courage from the victims who finally saw justice served.
