In the aftermath of Storm Babet, a woman in her 80s has tragically lost her life in Chesterfield, as confirmed by Derbyshire Constabulary. The woman was discovered at a property in Tapton Terrace around 10:35am on Saturday, and although investigations are ongoing into the cause of death, it is strongly believed to be linked to the flooding caused by the storm.

Storm Babet has unleashed havoc, prompting Nottinghamshire County Council to declare a “major incident” and advise residents in up to 500 homes in Retford to evacuate. The increased risk of flooding along the River Idle, with record levels reached on Sunday morning, has heightened concerns, leading to urgent calls for evacuation.
