Two Hurt After Major Incident at Portsmouth Tower Block

Two people have been rushed to hospital by South Central Ambulance after a major blaze ripped through a flat in a tower block in Somerstown, Portsmouth. One resident described how he was led through acrid smoke to escape from the incident. A number of residents were evacuated and taken to the nearby hub community centre and are being looked after by Portsmouth City Council. A fleet of ambulances and a Hazardous Area Response Team were also sent to the incident. Unaffected residents within the block awoke to a sea of emergency services in the street. Fire crews used four hose reels and positive pressure ventilation (PPV) in an attempt to keep the temperature down.
