Kipling Doriga, a Papua New Guinea international cricketer, has been handed a three-year prison sentence for robbing a woman to pay off a £1,000 debt.

Court heard how the 30-year-old followed the victim after spotting her leaving a nightclub, snatching her phone from her handbag. Doriga pleaded guilty to one count of robbery yesterday.
From Cricket Star to Convict
Doriga was in Jersey competing in the International Cricket Council Challenge League, a key tournament on the road to the 2027 Cricket World Cup. Since the incident on August 25, he has been held in custody.
Serving Time and Facing Deportation
- Doriga will serve the rest of his sentence at HMP La Moye.
- He will face deportation once released.
