A man has been found guilty this afternoon of the murder of a married couple from Basingstoke – UKNIP

Stanley Elliott of Vidlers Farm, Kiln Road, Sherborne St John was found guilty of two counts of murder in which he stabbed to death the couple inside their home leaving their toddler inside the house now ophened. Elliott had been entrusted to baby sit the Hibberts child on the evening of the murder, but after the couple returned home from being in Reading, Elliott unleashed a savage and brutal attack murdering the couple. The victims Geoffrey Hibbert, 61, and Michelle Caroline Hibbert, 29 who were both found dead by officers just before 2am on Sunday, 20 June. A 999 call made by Mrs Hibbert named Elliott seconds before he killed her. The jury in reaching the verdict found Elliott guilty of murdering Mr Hibbert by a majority of 10 to two and Mrs Hibbert by a majority of 11 to one. He will be sentenced at the same court on the 31st March. The judge, Mr Justice Garnham, told the defendant: “The sentence I have to pass on you, Mr Elliott, is one of life imprisonment. I have also to determine the minimum sentence.”
