In a heart-wrenching incident, a 12-day-old baby boy, born on Christmas Day, was discovered deceased in Millbrook Towers, a high-rise block of flats in Southampton, Hampshire, over the weekend. The tragedy has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and neglect.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the pair, whose identities have not been disclosed, have been bailed until April pending further investigation into this devastating case.
Neighbours within the community have expressed their profound shock and sorrow as authorities work diligently to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
One resident, Luke Childs, 30, conveyed his speechlessness, saying, “I don’t really know what to say. That is something that happened in this block, and to think it happened so close to us is quite unbelievable.”
Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described feeling sick upon hearing the news and expressed that the entire community is deeply affected by this heartrending incident.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene on Saturday at 8:18 AM. Their Critical Care Team, comprising two doctors and a specialist paramedic, provided medical treatment to the baby before he was transported to the hospital by road. The air ambulance crew accompanied the baby during this distressing journey, continuing to administer care.
As the investigation continues, the community remains in mourning, grappling with the sorrowful loss of an innocent life.
