Detectives are appealing for witnesses a week after a fatal collision in Lewisham

Detectives are appealing for witnesses a week after a fatal collision in Lewisham Police were called at 3.36pm on Sunday, 19 January, to reports of a collision on Dennetts Road, Peckham. Officers attended and found a blue BMW car – registration number B18 YFN – had been in collision with a moped and a parked car. The male rider of the moped was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on Monday 20 January. He has been identified as 50-year-old Fida Yassine of Southwark. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The BMW driver and a female passenger spoke with officers at the scene. It was reported that two men had made off from the BMW on foot. On Tuesday, 21 January, police arrested the 23-year-old driver of the BMW. They subsequently arrested a 27-year-old man on 23 January and a 21-year-old man on 24 January. The woman was not arrested. All three men have been bailed pending further enquiries. Detective Chief Inspector James Stanyer of the Met’s South East command unit said: “This was a tragic incident which resulted in the death of an innocent man riding his moped. “Officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, and need assistance from the public to piece together what happened on that Sunday afternoon. “I want to hear from any members of the public who witnessed the collision, and in particular the moments before the collision. Did you see anything suspicious? Do you recall seeing people getting into a car near to Dennetts Road? Or did you notice anything unusual about the BMW, its occupants and the way in which the car was being driven? “I also want to hear from anyone who saw the aftermath of the incident and may recall two men running from the scene.” Witnesses or anyone with information should call South East CID on 07788 916 864
