A vile sex offender from Gillingham has been locked up for 22 years for abusing three vulnerable children over a 30-year span. Roy Humphreys preyed on youngsters by gaining their trust before committing horrific sexual offences.

Decades of Abuse Uncovered

Humphreys first targeted two boys in the 1970s through connections with their family. He manipulated and abused them repeatedly. Then, about 30 years later, a third child suffered the same horrors at his hands.

The final victim bravely revealed the abuse in 2020 to a trusted relative. Police swooped and arrested Humphreys on 18 December. After his arrest, the other two victims also came forward, detailing their ordeals to detectives.

Criminal Finally Faces Justice

Humphreys, 82, of Broadway, Gillingham, was charged with 18 serious sexual offences including rape, gross indecency, and indecent assault. Despite pleading not guilty, a jury convicted him on 17 counts in June 2025.

He was sentenced on 15 October to 22 years behind bars. Humphreys is already under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will now remain indefinitely.

Detective Praises Victims’ Courage

“Humphreys is a vile sexual predator who gained the trust of three young children before committing multiple offences. The appalling impact of his crimes on their lives has been significant and cannot be overstated,” said Detective Constable Emma Davies.

“I commend the victims for their bravery in coming forward to bring this man to justice. I hope this sentence encourages others who have suffered abuse, no matter how long ago, to speak out. Our specialist team is ready to listen and act.”
