A Halifax man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing three young girls over a period spanning nearly 20 years.
Malcolm Holland, 66, of Carlton Street, was convicted of 14 counts of child sexual offences—including indecent assault, sexual assault of a child, and attempted rape—at Bradford Crown Court following a week-long trial. The abuse targeted girls aged between seven and 14, taking place between 2002 and 2021.
The offences came to light in April 2021 when one of the victims courageously reported the abuse to West Yorkshire Police. An investigation by Calderdale District Safeguarding detectives subsequently identified two further victims.
Holland was arrested and charged in November 2023 with multiple offences, including:
- Six counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
- Five counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
- Two counts of attempting to commit rape
- One count of indecent assault
He was found guilty on all charges by a unanimous jury verdict on 11 June 2025.
At sentencing on Friday 20 June, Holland was handed a 21.5-year custodial sentence, extended by two years on licence. He will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Riah Nicholson, who led the investigation, described Holland as a “predatory male who targeted vulnerable children” and praised the bravery of the victims.
“His lack of accountability forced these brave victims to endure a gruelling investigation and trial,” said DC Nicholson. “Their courage has ensured justice is served and Holland will spend a significant time behind bars.”
The judge praised the victims for their strength and fortitude, acknowledging the long road to justice and the emotional toll of giving evidence in court.
West Yorkshire Police and local safeguarding teams are continuing efforts to support victims and prevent child sexual exploitation in Halifax and across the Calderdale area.
