Emergency Response After Pedestrian Hit in Beckenham

An 89-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car in a shocking hit-and-run incident in Beckenham.

Arrest Made After Driver Fled Scene

According to the Metropolitan Police, the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene. The vehicle was later recovered, and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody.

A police spokesperson said:

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were called at 5.50pm on Sunday, 11 May to the scene of a road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian in Kent House Road, Beckenham.

“An 89-year-old man was treated at the scene and later taken to hospital where he remains. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

“The driver did not stop at the scene. The vehicle was later recovered and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.”

 

 Ambulance Service Statement

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added:

“We were called at 5.53pm yesterday (11 May) to reports of a road traffic collision in Kent House Road, Beckenham.

“We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated one elderly patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward.
