Jonas Amogbokpa, 55, the Lewisham sex offender who kidnapped and raped a woman inside his car, has vanished. The convicted rapist skipped the final days of his trial and remains on the run.
Defendant Disappears Mid-Trial at Woolwich Crown Court
Amogbokpa, out on bail, suddenly disappeared after giving evidence on February 11. A source said: “He clearly thought the evidence was going against him. He missed court the next day, claiming he was ill.”
Police found his home door wide open but no sign of him.
Found Guilty in Absentia, Arrest Warrant Issued
Despite his escape, the court found Amogbokpa guilty of rape and kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual offence. A warrant is now out for his arrest, but he has been missing for over a month.
Public Alerted as Manhunt for Dangerous Offender Intensifies
“He wasn’t on remand, so he had the chance to flee justice. The judge warned he’s a danger to the public,” a source confirmed.
“He’s still out there somewhere in south London, and people need to stay vigilant.”
The Met Police said: “Enquiries to find him are ongoing.” Anyone with info should call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
As of March 13, no arrests have been made relating to Amogbokpa’s disappearance.
