West Midlands Police have launched an investigation after the tragic death of a 22-year-old man who reportedly consumed drugs inside The Forum nightclub in Birmingham city centre. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 26, also saw two other men, both aged 20, hospitalized. They have since been discharged.
Police have confirmed that a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. He appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court earlier this week. As part of the investigation, police are working closely with His Majesty’s Coroner in Birmingham, and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place soon. The victim’s family has been informed and is receiving support from investigating officers.
Following the incident, West Midlands Police brought the matter to the attention of local authorities, citing concerns about the nightclub’s security and search procedures. In response, the Birmingham City Council licensing sub-committee temporarily suspended The Forum’s licence.
In a statement, West Midlands Police said, “We understand that people will be concerned, and our thoughts remain with the family of the young man. We will continue to work with licensed premises in the city and the wider business community to ensure the safety of everyone.”
Police are urging the public not to speculate on the details of the case to avoid prejudicing the ongoing investigation.
