Camberwell, London — A man has been charged with murder following the death of his father, Larry Chaters, who succumbed to serious injuries sustained during an incident at his home in Cormont Road, Camberwell.
Larry Chaters, 68, was admitted to hospital on 27 December 2024 after suffering multiple injuries, including rib fractures and a collapsed lung, resulting from an incident at his residence in the London Borough of Lambeth. Despite medical intervention, Mr. Chaters passed away on 2 January 2025.
Following his death, his son, Craig Chaters, 37 (born 3 October 1987), who also lived on Cormont Road, was arrested on the same day and has since been charged with murder.
Police Investigation Ongoing
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Mr. Chaters’ injuries directly contributed to his death.
A spokesperson from the Met Police Homicide Unit stated: “This is a deeply tragic case, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Chaters. We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Court Proceedings
Craig Chaters appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 3 January, where he was formally charged and remanded in custody. He is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 10 March for a preliminary hearing.
