A 48-year-old man has been charged in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Southampton, police confirmed today (December 31).
The incident was reported to have occurred overnight between Thursday, December 26, and Friday, December 27, at an address in the St Mary’s area of the city. The victim reportedly met the man on the evening of the attack.
Following an investigation, Damian Andre Martin, of Millbrook Road West, has been charged with several offenses, including:
- Rape
- Sexual assault
- Two counts of assault by penetration
- Assault by beating
- Taking a child to keep her from a person having lawful control
Martin is scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today.
A second man, aged 50 and also from Southampton, was arrested on suspicion of rape in connection with the incident. He has been released on conditional bail as further inquiries continue.
The young girl is being supported by specialist officers as the investigation progresses.
