Medway Police Engage Community at Local Sports Event

In a community-centred initiative, Medway police officers attended the annual sports day hosted by the Medway Ghanaian Association on Saturday, July 13, to interact with local residents and offer crucial crime prevention advice.

The event, which saw participation from various community segments, also included representatives from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, creating a collaborative environment for public safety and community engagement.

Throughout the day, officers took the opportunity to discuss safety concerns, share advice on preventing crime, and engage with the community on issues that impact their daily lives. The event proved to be an excellent platform for direct communication between the police and the community, fostering a deeper understanding and strengthening community ties.

PC Ranaweera highlighted the importance of such interactions, stating, “We work hard to build and maintain positive relationships with many communities in Medway, and this event gave us the perfect opportunity to meet with, and chat to those who may not usually have the chance to engage with us. It is by hearing directly about the things that are causing the most concern for local people, that we can work with our partners to respond promptly and effectively.

Young attendees were particularly thrilled to explore the inside of a police car and a police cell van, adding an educational twist to the fun-filled day. These interactions are vital in demystifying police work for younger generations and building trust within the community.
