Middleton Resident Sentenced To 15 Years For Child Sexual Offences

Mark Crossley, a 28-year-old resident of Hopwood Court, Middleton, received a 15-year sentence at Minshull Street Crown Court on October 4, 2023. This sentencing followed Crossley’s guilty plea to 14 counts of child sexual offences against two children in Rochdale spanning from 2013 to 2020.

Crossley’s disturbing actions unfolded during visits to a trusted individual’s house, where he engaged in inappropriate behavior and actions towards underage victims. This behavior, at times, resulted in rewards to further complicate the victims’ understanding of the situation. The victims, unable to comprehend the severity of the situation or muster the confidence to report the abuse at a young age, later came forward after learning the truth.

The case triggered a thorough and swift investigation by the Greater Manchester Police, initiated promptly once authorities were made aware of the circumstances. Detective Constable Elizabeth Stacey of GMP Rochdale Child Sexual Exploitation team praised the bravery and courage of the victims, emphasising the terrifying ordeal they endured at the hands of someone who should have cared for them.

Stacey stated, “Hopefully the sentencing of Crossley means they can start their own healing process from the memories and experiences they faced at such a young age. Hopefully, they can take some comfort he cannot commit these offences again whilst behind bars.”

Despite Crossley’s sentencing, the Greater Manchester Police and their specialised team remain committed to pursuing justice for all victims of child sexual abuse. Ongoing coordinated efforts aim to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future, reflecting the broader dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
