A mother has tragically died, and her daughter injured, after a car mounted a pavement and struck them in Westcliff near Southend-on-Sea, just days before Christmas.
The incident occurred on St John’s Road at the junction with Hamlet Court Road at approximately 5:30 PM on December 12. Witnesses reported the car, a black Suzuki Splash, was allegedly speeding.
Emergency Response
Emergency crews arrived swiftly and transported the 52-year-old mother and her 23-year-old daughter to the hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the mother succumbed to her injuries. Her daughter sustained injuries described as “not life-threatening or life-changing.”
Driver Arrested
Essex Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="19431">Essex Police confirmed the arrest of a 31-year-old driver at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. The suspect remains in custody for questioning.

Local leaders expressed their sorrow following the tragedy. Milton Labour, in a Facebook post, paid tribute to the victim, stating:
