A car hit fencing along Stone Street at just after 8pm.
The man was tragically confirmed dead at the scene and another occupant has been taken to hospital. He remains in a serious condition.
Officers are supporting both their families at this terrible time.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and has not already spoken to officers.
Theyare particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was travelling through and has dashcam footage.
