Thomas Rainey, a 61-year-old man, appeared before Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday, July 5th, where he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Katrina Rainey. Rainey had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and will have to serve a minimum of 18 years before being eligible to apply for release.

The tragic incident occurred on October 12, 2021, when Katrina Rainey was trapped inside a car that became engulfed in flames outside their home in Maghera. She lost her life in the horrifying incident, leaving behind six children and a devastated family.
