Two people have been arrested following the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Daejuan Campbell in Woolwich on Sunday, 22 September 2024. Police were called to Eglinton Road at around 8:35 p.m. after reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found Daejuan with a stab wound. Despite efforts from emergency services, he tragically died a short time later.
Daejuan, a student at Woolwich Polytechnic Boys‘ School, was named as the victim today. Two men, aged 52 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, who is overseeing the investigation, extended his condolences to Daejuan’s family and friends. He stated, “My thoughts are with Daejuan’s loved ones as they try to come to terms with this heart-breaking incident. Our officers are working around the clock to build a picture of what happened.”
Lawry also appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information, or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around the time of the attack, to come forward. He encouraged anyone with footage or details to contact the police, reminding residents they can provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
Witnesses have described the harrowing scene, including a local woman who attempted to aid Daejuan after discovering him face down on the ground. She described hearing someone scream, “someone’s been stabbed,” before rushing to the scene and helping stem the bleeding until paramedics arrived. The witness recalled Daejuan telling her, “I’m 15, I’m 15, don’t let me die,” as she tried to comfort him.
The community has been left shaken by the incident. One local resident described the victim as “the most polite boy,” while another expressed concerns for his own son’s safety, noting how the violence has impacted families with teenagers in the area.
A police cordon and forensic tent were set up at the scene, with multiple officers present throughout Monday. Increased patrols have been ordered in the area as investigations continue. London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his condolences, stating, “This heart-breaking violence has no place in our streets.
