Two Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing in New Cross

Overview

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of Ayowale Aladejana, 26, in New Cross have charged a man and woman with murder.

Ben Wazabanga, 23, of Fairfax Road, Bedford, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody and appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 August.

Ronique Belfon, 23, of Morinsbury Road, Bedford, was also charged with murder. She appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

Incident in Monson Road

The investigation was launched after police were called at 19:26hrs on Saturday, 2 August to reports of a man suffering stab wounds at a residential address in Monson Road, New Cross.

Officers attended alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and medics from London’s Air Ambulance. Despite their efforts, Ayowale Aladejana was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family are being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Sunday, 3 August, established a preliminary cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Ongoing Investigation

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that their investigation is continuing as enquiries are carried out to fully understand the circumstances surrounding Ayowale’s death.
