After the collision, Rossiter sped off, driving on the wrong side of the road and causing a crash that damaged another vehicle. Police later found the car, which had been set on fire, abandoned in Hornash Lane near Shadoxhurst.

A detailed investigation followed, with detectives speaking to witnesses and reviewing hours of CCTV footage from across Ashford. The investigation led to Rossiter being identified as the driver, though he evaded police for several days before being arrested in Hawkhurst on January 31. It was revealed that Rossiter only held a provisional driving licence.

While in custody, Rossiter attempted to bite a detective, resulting in an additional charge of assault on an emergency worker.

Chief Inspector Sarah Rivett, Ashford District Commander, praised the bravery of the injured officer and the investigative team. She said, “Police officers go out every day to protect the community, and I am always impressed by their bravery when faced with individuals like Rossiter. I am thankful the officer is recovering and working towards a full return when possible.”

Rossiter’s actions have left a lasting impact on the officer, who continues to recover from his injuries.
