Two people have been arrested after a significant haul of illegal vapes, counterfeit tobacco, and deadly weapons — including a ‘Rambo’ knife and a dagger — were discovered in a general store in Kings Heath, Birmingham.
Police officers, working alongside the council’s trading standards team, carried out a raid at the store on King’s Road just before 11am on Thursday, March 20, following a tip-off about suspected illegal activity.
During the operation, officers uncovered illegal disposable vapes, counterfeit tobacco products, and a cache of weapons, including large knives described as “Rambo-style” blades. The raid resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman on suspicion of a string of offences.

Follow-Up Home Raids Uncover £400,000 Cash and Class A Drugs
Soon after the arrests, searches were carried out at the suspects’ homes, leading to the seizure of around £400,000 in cash, along with suspected quantities of cannabis and cocaine. Police say these findings further strengthen the case for money laundering and drug supply offences.
Sergeant Kasey Corbett, from the Brandwood neighbourhood policing team, praised the public for their role in helping uncover the operation:
“We really appreciate it when people take the time to contact us about suspected criminal activity in their area – it shows that people trust us to act.
“As part of our ongoing investigation, the suspected illegal vapes and drugs will be analysed by experts.”
Vaping Law Violations and Public Health Concerns
Trading standards officers have confirmed that many of the seized disposable vapes breach UK law, which limits tank capacity to 2ml (roughly 650 puffs). Any product offering more than this likely contains excess nicotine liquid and should not be on sale in the UK.
Officials warned that illegal vapes often lack safety checks and may pose serious health risks to unsuspecting users.
Charges and Next Steps
The arrested pair face a raft of allegations, including:
- Handling stolen goods
- Money laundering
- Possession of offensive weapons
- Supply of Class A and B drugs
- Acquiring criminal property
Both have since been released on bail while the joint police and trading standards investigation continues.
