NEW RECRUITS Wiltshire’s New Police Cadets Take the Oath in Star-Studded Ceremony

18 cadets, who joined units in Chippenham, Swindon and Trowbridge in September 2025, took part in the ceremony held at Wiltshire Police Headquarters in Devizes on Monday 23 February.
During the ceremony, ACC Smith welcomed the cadets to the Wiltshire Police family and spoke of the significant contribution volunteers make to our organisation.

She said: “It was a privilege to welcome these young people into the Force, who have given their most precious commodity, their time, to serve the communities of Wiltshire.

“Volunteers bring richness and diversity to the Wiltshire policing family. All are giving something back to the public we serve and helping to keep them safe.

“Their roles are vital. They bring a wealth of valuable skills and experience, creating closer and more effective relationships with our county.

“The impact of the time you give is felt across the Force, and it is valued immensely. I am very grateful for your hard work and commitment. You are very much part of our police family.”

The High Sheriff spoke to the cadets about the meaning and significance of taking their oath, before they were presented with certificates by Chief Inspector Steve Jolly and received their new cadet sliders from Cadet Patron Lady Gooch.

The Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Wilkinson brought the ceremony to a close by congratulating the cadets on taking their first step and wishing them luck for the rest of their Cadet journey with Wiltshire Police.

Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson said: “It was a pleasure to see our new cadets take their oath and formally begin their journey with Wiltshire Police. Their decision to step forward and volunteer their time in service of our communities reflects a level of commitment and maturity that deserves real recognition.

“I look forward to seeing how they develop their skills and continue contributing to their local communities over the coming months.”

Following the ceremony, cadets, parents and special guests joined cadet leaders in the lounge area for refreshments and photographs.

Alison Creswell, Cadet Coordinator said,”It was a truly meaningful evening for our cadets.

“Standing up and speaking before their families and distinguished guests is no small task, but with the support of their dedicated leaders, they rose to the challenge with confidence and maturity, despite their nerves.

“They made their families, their leaders, and everyone who attended feel incredibly proud.”

Although the Chief Constable was unable to attend the ceremony due to hosting a Facebook Live session, she visited the cadets as they were preparing for their pre-ceremony uniform inspection and wished them luck for the event.
