Devastating Mitcham Blaze Rips Through Family Home
Firefighters Battle Inferno as House Is Razed
Heart-stopping photos reveal the wreckage left by a massive fire that gutted a two-storey semi-detached house on Lewis Road, Mitcham. The blaze erupted at 8.10am and was finally brought under control by 10.45am, but not before the property was utterly destroyed.
Neighbours’ Homes and Car Also Damaged
The fierce flames didn’t stop at one house. A nearby neighbour’s roof suffered partial damage, and a car parked outside was mostly burnt beyond recognition.
Photos from the scene show a blackened, gaping hole where the house once stood, along with a destroyed back fence — a grim testament to the fire’s ferocity.
Fire Brigade’s Rapid Response
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters rushed to Lewis Road after receiving 26 emergency calls starting at 8.11am.”
Crews were mobilised from across the area including Mitcham, Tooting, Norbury, Sutton and Wallington stations. They tackled the blaze tirelessly, gaining control by 10.43am.
“A semi-detached two-storey house was completely destroyed by fire,” the spokesperson added. “A small part of the next door house’s roof was damaged, and most of a car parked outside was also destroyed.”
Investigation Underway
The cause of the frightening blaze remains unknown. London Fire Brigade investigators are currently probing the scene.
