Police Officer Raises Funds for Life-Saving Defibrillators in Maidstone

Three life-saving defibrillators have been installed across Maidstone thanks to the efforts of a dedicated police officer, who cycled nearly double the length of the River Thames to raise funds.

Fundraising Mission

? PC Nick Lingham, alongside 20 colleagues and friends, cycled an astonishing 360 miles in just 12 hours to raise over £3,000 for the purchase of defibrillators.

His motivation came from his late colleague and friend, PC Adrian Debnam, with whom he had often discussed the need for accessible defibrillators along the River Medway towpath.

Initially, PC Lingham aimed to raise £2,500 to buy two defibrillators for locations between East Farleigh and Aylesford. However, their fundraising success exceeded expectations, allowing for a third defibrillator to be purchased.

Where Are the Defibrillators?

The three new 24/7 defibrillators have been installed at:
? Allington Locks
? Mill Meadow
? Fairmeadow

Each unit is also equipped with three sets of pads and a new battery as part of a long-term maintenance plan.

Ongoing Support

Maidstone County Council will cover the running costs.
Local businesses have stepped in to cover annual electricity costs for each unit.

PC Lingham’s Tribute to His Friend

PC Nick Lingham said:

Adrian and I often cycled along the River Medway towpath, talking about how 24/7 defibrillators could save lives in medical emergencies.
“Sadly, Adrian passed away before we could bring this vision to life together, so I decided to carry it out in his memory with the support of our community.”
“I want to thank everyone for their generosity and for making this possible.”

This initiative serves as a lasting tribute to PC Adrian Debnam and a vital contribution to public safety in Maidstone.
