South East multiple operator Austin Whelan continues to grow his family-run AK Whelan Management portfolio, with the recent opening of his 11th establishment. Whelan, an experienced figure in the industry, oversees a diverse array of venues, including both leased and freehold properties, and even a separate estate of pubs in partnership with Colin Coogan called Doolin Rock Pubs.
The most recent addition to the AK Whelan Management collection is a freehold pub located on Beckenham High Street. Previously known as The Manor House and formerly a Slug and Lettuce site, this establishment has undergone a remarkable £750,000 renovation. Under its new identity, Erin’s, named after Whelan’s daughter, it sets its sights on offering quality food, top-tier beverages, and live entertainment to patrons.
Whelan’s ambitions are far from quenched, as he envisions expanding his portfolio to encompass 15 sites within the next 12 to 18 months, should promising opportunities present themselves. He places a strong emphasis on acquiring additional freeholds, recognizing their potential to enhance the overall value of his business.
