Blackheath Easter Funfair Reopens with Enhanced Security After Youth Disorder Incident

The Blackheath Easter Funfair has reopened today with new security measures in place following a disturbance involving a group of youths that forced the event to temporarily close on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred near the fair on Prince Charles Road around 3.50pm on April 8, prompting a large police response. One person was treated for minor injuries, and several arrests were made, including for possession of an offensive weapon.

In a statement posted on Facebook this morning, event organisers Capital Funfairs reassured the public that the event is once again open — but with strict new safety protocols to ensure the protection of families, visitors, and staff.

“We are a family fun fair, for families, run by families,” the statement read.
“To support a family-oriented environment, children under the age of 14 will not be allowed entrance without an accompanying adult. ID may need to be shown to verify age.”

Enhanced Security and Policy Changes

Organisers confirmed the introduction of security checks, including knife detection wands, as well as additional CCTV monitoring throughout the fairground.

Security personnel now have the authority to remove any individuals behaving in an unruly or abusive manner, with a zero-tolerance approach to disorder.

In response to the incident, Capital Funfairs also announced the cancellation of “Mega Deal” discount days for the remainder of the event’s run. However, printable vouchers remain available on their website, and newly introduced “Family Discount Days” will be announced soon.

Community and Police Response

The funfair is a popular local attraction during the Easter holidays, and the incident raised concerns among families and residents about event safety. Police confirmed that the majority of the youths involved had fled the area by the time officers arrived, but their investigation remains ongoing.

The reopening and increased safety measures are part of a joint effort between the organisers and authorities to restore confidence and ensure a safe, family-friendly atmosphere for the rest of the fair’s duration.

Visitors are encouraged to check the Capital Funfairs website and social media for updates on operating hours, new policies, and discount offers.
