Body Found Floating in Water Five Miles Off Brighton

An investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was discovered in the English Channel, approximately five miles off the coast of Brighton on Saturday (April 19).

The emergency response was triggered just before midday after a member of the public spotted the body floating in the water. Brighton RNLI’s B-class lifeboat Random Harvest was paged at 11:52am and quickly launched to recover the woman from the sea.

She was brought ashore to Brighton Marina, where police, coastguard, and ambulance crews were waiting.

A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed:
“Police were called at around 12.30pm on Saturday, April 19 after a woman’s body was found by a member of the public in the sea about five miles off the coast of Brighton. The RNLI recovered the body.”

“Enquiries are ongoing, alongside partner agencies, to identify the woman and establish the full circumstances of the situation.”

No further information about the identity of the woman has been released at this stage.

Authorities have appealed for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
