Four Dead After Car Crashes Through After-School Camp in Illinois

Tragedy struck in Illinois this afternoon after a vehicle crashed through an after-school camp building, killing four people — including children — and injuring several others, according to local police.

The incident occurred at the YNOT After School Camp in Chatham, a village located just three miles from Springfield, the state capital. Victims are reported to range in age from four to 18 years old, authorities confirmed.

Incident Details

Illinois State Police reported that the vehicle first struck multiple individuals outside the building before smashing through the structure, hitting several people inside, and exiting through the opposite side.

It remains unclear whether the act was intentional or accidental. State authorities have launched an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal crash.

Emergency services, including ambulances and air ambulances, rushed several victims to nearby hospitals. The driver, who was reportedly uninjured, was transported to hospital for evaluation.

Illinois State Police responded to the scene at approximately 3.30pm local time (9.30pm).

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Illinois Governor JB Pritzker expressed condolences and pledged support for the affected community:
